KWh meters mainly have 2 types

1) Analog meter type, this type is Copper Coil and CT inside and it very strong to withstand the surges, the CT is for inducing the electrical current and will not effect by direct surge strikes.

2) Digital meter type (TOU meter) this type is electronic components inside and lot of them damaged by surges and need the surge protector to protect the unit.
